About the data

Where every number on stockER comes from, and how it is worked out.

Prices

NSE's end-of-day files ("bhavcopy"): open, high, low, close, previous close and volume for every stock, published after the market closes. stockER shows closing data, not live prices. Charts use five years of these files. Prices before a bonus issue or stock split are adjusted so the chart doesn't show a fake fall; demergers are not adjusted.

Financials

Each company's quarterly results as filed with NSE in XBRL (machine-readable) form: the older results format up to December 2024 and SEBI's Integrated Filing format after that. stockER uses consolidated figures when the company files them, otherwise standalone. Balance sheets and cash flow statements are filed every half year. Annual figures are the sum of a financial year's four quarters.

Ratios

Market cap = closing price × shares (paid-up capital ÷ face value). EPS (TTM) = profit attributable to shareholders over the last four quarters ÷ current shares. PE = price ÷ EPS (TTM). PB = market cap ÷ shareholders' equity. ROE = profit over the last four quarters ÷ equity. Debt-to-equity uses current plus non-current borrowings. Dividend yield = dividends per share with ex-dates in the last 12 months ÷ price. Volatility compares the standard deviation of daily price moves over the last year with the Nifty 50's.

Shareholding

The quarterly shareholding pattern filed with NSE. Promoter, foreign institutional, mutual fund and other domestic institutional shares come from the filing; "retail and others" is the remainder.

Mutual funds and ETFs

AMFI's daily NAV file for every scheme, and AMFI's NAV history for the date a year earlier. The 1-year return is the change in NAV. stockER lists the Direct Plan, Growth option of each fund; funds younger than a year, schemes whose plan can't be identified, and ETFs with a unit split in the year are left out.

Corporate actions and filings

Dividends, bonuses and splits from NSE's corporate actions list. Filings are the company's own announcements to NSE, with links to the original PDFs.

Market mood

stockER's own gauge from 0 to 100, the average of four readings: the share of Nifty 50 stocks that rose on the day, the share above their 50-day average price, where the Nifty 50 sits in its 52-week range, and how low India VIX is compared with its past year (a lower VIX scores higher). It describes the market; it doesn't predict it.

What stockER leaves out

Live prices, analyst forecasts, and insider or bulk-deal data are not shown. Nothing on stockER is a recommendation to buy or sell; it is for personal, educational use.
